These may not be for everyone but if you want an incredibly bright light and don't mind (or even enjoy) a bit of tinkering and nostalgia then I definitely recommend giving St Paul's Mercantile a chance. Everything arrived well packed. I decided to break the lantern down to give it a good cleaning and polishing. Being a total newbie, this was also an opportunity to get familiar with everything. After rinsing out the tank and reassembling I filled and began to pump away. I had a small air leak from where the pressure gauge attaches. After applying a bit of beeswax to the threads the tank was air tight (I wanted to use Teflon tape but had none). I started pumping again and after I achieved a decent sweat, I filled the little preheat reservoir, with denatured alcohol, replaced the glass, attached the mantle, reassembled, lit the alcohol and waited a few minutes and turned the nob at the back and I was in business.
